Welcome!
Seventh grade Latin builds on the foundations established in sixth grade. Students study Latin grammar and vocabulary in greater detail with the goal of reading simple passages in Latin, as well as translating Latin sentences into English. Study takes into account increased child development and therefore is more comprehensive and intensive than in sixth grade. The course largely follows the curriculum outlined in Cambridge Latin Series, which continues into eighth grade and beyond at many high schools. Additionally, enrichment will take various forms, from reading mythological accounts of Vergil’s Aeneid to traditional ancient Roman stories that attempt to explain origins and metamorphoses to songs, psalms and prayers. Selected topics in Roman history and culture will also be covered throughout the year.

In March all seventh grade students will participate in the National Latin Exam, co-sponsored by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League.
This promises to be an exciting year in Latin, as students realize the deep traditions passed to them through this extraordinary language.
